Who‘s to blame for mental health issues?

The energy of thought is the power through which all of our realities are created. The non-stop movie-maker. Until we understand its immense power, we feel like victims to the realities made.
Mental health issues

If someone is signed off sick for mental health issues, it is talked about either as:

  • The company’s fault. “They should have seen it coming and helped prevent it. Work is too stressful”.
  • The individual’s fault. “They should have gone for help a long time ago. They can’t deal with pressure”.

Neither of these are wholly true.

Stress does not come directly from workplace pressures, nor from a “weak” person with ’mental health issues’.

Overthinking, overwhelm, stress and anxiety come from one place:

Thought in the moment.

The energy of thought is the power through which all of our realities are created.

The non-stop movie-maker.

Until we understand its immense power, we feel like victims to the realities made.

If more company leadership teams understood the central role of thought, they would detect people who are struggling far sooner.

When individuals understand the central role of thought, they can navigate their way through work, communication and decision-making in a way that is healthier and aligned with them.

Instead, far too much time and energy is wasted on “outside-in” solutions:

  • Superficial changes, time off, replacing workers…

To be clear, I am not talking about “changing your thoughts/beliefs”, inventing positive realities or controlling your emotions.

I’m talking about understanding and exploring the power of this immense energy that we often call Thought or Consciousness.

The answers come from looking inward.

Tricky to do when there’s lots of noise.

And easy to avoid with scapegoats.
