Anxiety at Christmas

Trying to self-soothe and calm our nervous systems in food and drink is a tethered strategy. A more loving approach to yourself and those around you is to TAKE CARE of yourself and listen to what you actually want over the Christmas period, as you do the rest of year (and if you don’t, it’s a great time to ask yourself: Why not?!).

If you’re experiencing anxiety at Christmas, this “jolly season” can sometimes feel not so jolly.

You might feel disappointed or overwhelmed by “where you’re at in your life” (or business).

You might be going through something difficult like an illness, a separation or a loss.

Perhaps you’re not looking forward to spending Christmas with the people you’re going to spend it with. People you might NEVER spend that much time with the rest of the year!

You might feel sad or nostalgic remembering someone or something.

Or maybe you’re running around like a headless chicken trying to “get things done” – work, shopping etc, so that you can finally rest…

…Then you come down with a nasty flu and have to spend the holidays in bed anyway.

One common response to “deal with the stress” is by drowning your sorrows in xmas booze.

Nothing wrong with having a few drinks but the CRASH you experience after “needing” it, sends you lower than when you started.

Trying to self-soothe and calm our nervous systems in food and drink is a tethered strategy.

A more loving approach to yourself and those around you is to TAKE CARE of yourself and listen to what you actually want over the Christmas period, as you do the rest of year

(and if you don’t, it’s a great time to ask yourself: Why not?!).

One of the TOP ways you can be kind to yourself is by getting curious about these 2 facts that describe our human experience:

  1. Reality is created inside-out moment to moment:

As Sydney Banks said, you are “one thought away” from an entirely different experience of anything.

  1. Your natural state IS wellbeing and inspiration:

When your mind clears and your body is allowed to be just as it is in this moment, life is more expansive and inspirational.

Experimenting with those facts this Christmas, to see if they are true for you in YOUR experience, is a great way to stop focusing so much on everything you have an aversion to

You can then be more YOU…

…Without having to simply play a role on autopilot that involves feeling frequently rubbish until January…

Or spring…
